Can we all stop and appreciate the miraculous turnaround of the weather for the eclipse?    As recently as Friday it was saying rain with maybe some partial clearing. Today was about as good

in case you are sweatin to the oldies these days in the height of summer — here is an interesting and very well handled news 5 throwback to the blizzard of jan 1977 and how it was dealt with:

People move to Florida for the weather, and leave because of the climate.

Hurricane Milton just reached Cat 5 faster than just about any hurricane in recorded history. And it's bound for Florida's Gulf Coast that hasn't yet recovered from Hurricane Helene's landfall 10 days ago.

Worse, a lot of models have it hitting Tampa dead on. Tampa is extraordinarily susceptible to storm surge and hasn't really been tested by a hurricane of any strength directly in over a century. Anywhere it hits, though, will have double-digit storm surge even if it weakens some before landfall.

Stunningly powerful 'cane.

hurricane milton in the gulf from space —

I used to visit Sarasota many years ago when my grandmother was there. She lived a couple of miles inland not near the Gulf, but I saw the track will go almost directly over her old neighborhood, so hopefully it won't be so bad there. The barrier islands like Siesta Key (and Lido and Longboat Keys) face catastrophic destruction. Such a beautiful city

The sad thing about living an a world of influencers is that it's nearly impossible to tell who's actually dumb and who's pretending to be dumb for views.

^ Apparently Caroline Calloway went to Cambridge University and became famous (or infamous) for a "memoir" she wrote called Scammer. I doubt she's really in harm's way from the hurricane. I guess we'll know tomorrow lol

As bad as our hurricane season was, and it was bad, the Philippines have been hit by FOUR Typhoons in TEN days.

NWS is calling for a snow/rain mix with possible accumulations...

Snip...An active forecast period is in store, particularly from Wednesday
afternoon through Thursday when the potential exists for impactful
winds and wet snow accumulations.
Confidence in the placement and
magnitude of those impacts remains low given inconsistent details
among models, but we`ll dive into the details and what could lead to
a more or less impactful system...Snip

With Steelers on top of the division (with Russel Wilson....cough cough), the Browns should still show up to try to knock them off.   If they don't, we have a serious coaching issue.

Mentor (work):   I measured 17" total this morning.

Geneva (our production manager's place):  about 56".

If anything the last couple games have shown that with the right QB leading the team, Stefanski's systems work.   I don't believe Winston is the right QB, but hes more serviceable than Watson.

I miss hearing the Sohio radio commercials with the weird sound effect - "No fuel line freeze-up or Sohio pays your tow".  I wonder if Sohio ever did pay for anyone's tow?

in my years of growing up in Lake County, I don't ever remembering this happening once. I guess a Cuyahoga River-style fire would help clear this up 🔥

No, she is just pro-Superior Midway...

It was cold out there today, it seemed like the wind picked up right as the parade started and really dropped the mercury. We made it about halfway through the parade before hitting up a bar instead.
