Posted February 15, 201015 yr On a warm summer evening in 2008, now a resident of Brooklyn, I decided to pay another visit to Coney Island. Plans were underway to close the existing amusement parks and turn Coney Island into a playground for yuppies, and this turned out to be the last season for the park in its former incarnation. Some elements such as the Cyclone and the Wonder Wheel will be retained, but much of the park will be bulldozed and turned into luxury condos and theme restaurants. Farewell, old friend.

February 16, 201015 yr Coney Island has a spookiness about it. I agree, very creepy. Imagine it all closed down awaiting the wrecking ball! And what's with the cars for the Cyclone- it looks like someone nailed some old sofas to a board with wheels!
February 16, 201015 yr Coney Island oddly enough strikes me as having a bit of an LA vibe. It kind of has that kitchy and mid 20th century tackiness about it, which LA has so much of. It's a shame NY is will be getting rid of CI in its current incarnation.
