I think the papers said it was Deerfield Township technically. Anyway, the owner is an electrical engineer and spent $10,000 on the system which is run through a computer. The Warren County Sherriff asked him to turn them off because cars were backing up on his and adjacent streets and there had been an accident that was hard to get to. The internet is the only place to see it now.

You can't help yourself, huh?  Deerfield Townships mailing address is Mason, Ohio.

Haha. I wouldn't have just posted that alone, but boundaries are something I worry too much about. I would have said that for whoever posted.

It sure looks that way. I am probably another victim of the media. Do you have an article on it? The Journal is the one that said it was "in Deerfield Township near Mason," and I am wondering what the CE said. I searched cincy.com but couldn't find anything. I wish Warren provided a good online map with boundaries like Butler, but we blow.

That video is so two weeks ago! :-P

Two weeks? I saw it on November 20th. :-) (three weeks)

He had to shut it down, it was becomming too much of an attraction. :-(

oh geez louise, that was scary. it's clever but creepy and sinister!

The Journal-News is at it again. Right on their homepage they have this video and list it as in Deerfield Township. See it at www.journal-news.com. I emailed them that they might want to confirm that the house wasn't really in Mason. We shall see what happens. The two other times I have emailed them they have been quite prompt with a reply.

EDIT: I've found even more:

The Dayton Daily says Deerfield: http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/content/shared/oh/news/stories/1207deerfieldlightsweb.html

The Cincy Enquirer: http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051205/LIFE/512050331/1086

Then, WCPO says Mason: http://www.wcpo.com/news/2005/local/12/07/lights.html

I am starting to wonder if we have our geography right monte. Your map was pretty convincing however.

Who cares. I just saw this on the Ellen Degeneres show the other day and she said Mason also. They say Mason, because it has Ohio behind it. How will this sound on national tv "Deerfield twp, Ohio" LOL

Here's the discrepancy:  monte's map is Winding Creek Lane; this house (according to articles) is on Winding Creek Court, which is just outside the Mason city limits.  So Deerfield Twp. is correct, although you might as well just say Mason.

^Well, like monte says, Deerfield has a Mason mailing address.

People on this site seem to make a big deal about locations and boundaries and the way they are reported in the media—and probably rightfully so.  Whether it’s sloppily reporting the incorrect neighborhood, reporting Cincinnati when they are really referring to the metro area, or any similar offense, people are quick to point out the media’s mistake.  It’s never been a problem before, so I don’t see the big deal with Ink pointing it out.  Granted, the significance in this case is negligible, but Ink does have a valid point.

Oh for the love of god...  Is this still going on?  As unualfire stated, at this point who cares...  I didn't know there was another Winding Creek in the 45040 zipcode as pointed out by PigBoy.  By looking at the map, I had the wrong street and by looking at the map of "Winding Creek Court" instead of lane, it does look like it is in Deerfield.

Let this thread die and move on...

Of course you didn't know there was a difference in Court and Lane, just like I didn't know the street name at all so I had to go with what I remembered from the papers.

Anyway, now that we have an answer, and we are all somewhat right, back to commenting on the lights themselves.

I'd like to see that guys electric bill.

So, did did Kerry win Cincinnati because it is in the city limits, or did he lose, because he lost the suburbs ("greater Cincinnati - outside the boundaries)?

I'm just kidding! I just read this thread for the first time and was a little amused by the conversation! ;) I figured some of you would catch the sarcastic undertones.

I saw this cat on the national news and he's also been contacted by people like the BBC.  There's even word that some cities have been in contact with him to design their holiday displays.

This man is gonna get PAID!

^Yep, that one wins by far. I especially like the grand finale. If only it was realized.

I, for one, welcome our new Canadian overlords.

this is funny. hmmmm it seems this alleged mason, ohio xmas house is a fake --- and so is mason, ohio for that matter! what?!? dont you love internet conspiracies? check out the chatter about it on the dumpalink site:

Someone ask the folks who created this if they can create one to the tune of the theme from the Magnificent Seven. I think it would be fabulous.

This is actually fake. It's CGI. If you read on Snopes, Mason, Ohio doesn't even exist... It's a hoax. They got a website called imaginemason.com, but it was made as a joke by two college students trying to pull a prank.

It's a computer program designed to create illusions. It's what you're seeing in action here with this "Christmas lights" display. The thing about this one is that it's a little more elaborate than most hoaxes because the people that did it even created a fake story about where it's at, created a website to support the notion that the town exists, etc. My hat's off to whoever's responsible for it, because they went to great lengths to give it an air of believability.

I just saw Williams on Local 12 and the City of Mason is paying him to construct two silhouettes of his homes at Heritage this Christmas. So now it will be in Mason ;) .

LOL, this is definately one of the better threads on this forum.

^ That story doesn't mention it, but it starts December 2 and costs $15 per carload.

It'll be done drive-in style...100 cars at a time.  Vendors will sell popcorn and hot chocolate.  (Why?  The thing only lasts for 15 minutes.)

Here's a link to the Enquirer story about it:

Where is the headline, "People refuse to drive to Mason to watch 10 minute light show for $15 bucks even with great weather"?

I thought the same thing.

It's not polite to mock people's names but Mary Sue Slack just sounds like the name of somebody in an 80s punk band.

Is this thing on Youtube yet or are the cars searched for recording devices ?

Maybe the murder at the Mason Pub earlier this year has kept people away from visiting Mason for Christmas activities? ;)

Dude, that's my sister!
