February 17, 201015 yr I think mine is more of a Cleve-lin or Cleve-len. That's the way I pronounce it as well.
February 17, 201015 yr I voted for "other" I was would say that Cleave-land is the proper pronunciation. Wasn't that the original spelling as well until somekind of misprint by the local media? Sounding it out though, I probably pronounce it as Cleave-lund or Cleave-lend.
February 17, 201015 yr I think I'm more of a Cleve-lend than Cleve-lind. +1 clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
February 17, 201015 yr This thread reminds me of the movie Howard the Duck. he pronounced it as two separate words. "Cleve - Land" *Disclaimer* Yes I know that it is possibly one of the worst movies ever made.
February 17, 201015 yr Howard the Duck Thanks for reviving a successfully repressed memory from my youth. Worst... movie... ever. I just wonder what the hell was going through the screenwriter's mind - "let's see, we'll do a movie about a humanoid duck from a technologically advanced culture who winds up on earth and has a palm-sweatingly uncomfortable pseudo romance with an earthling. That should net us an Oscar!"
February 17, 201015 yr You know you're ghetto if you pick Option 5, I'm just tellin' you that right now. No the answer to that would be.... I'm from "the'land" or "da land." :)
March 25, 201015 yr I usually say Cleve-lind; sometimes I say Cleve-lund; and very rarely I will say Cleve-lin ------- Heck, I can barely pronounce my hometown consistently. Sandusky can be pronounced as Sin-DUH-skee, Sen-DUH-skee, Sun-DUH-skee, and occassionally SAN-duh-skee. My pronunciation falls somewhere between "Sin" and "Sen". haha Then there's: Toledo (tuh-LEE-doh or ti-LEE-doh) Lorain (loh-RAIN or lur-AIN) Elyria (ih-LEER-ee-uh or eh-LEER-ee-uh) .....oh, linguistics!
March 29, 201015 yr I'd say Cleve-lind, but the d is very close to being silent. Fast fact: Stacy Keetch pronounces in "Cleve-lin" in "Escape from LA." Talk about a crappy movie...
April 2, 201015 yr OK...this series of "how do you pronounce: X" threads show me that the Urban Bar was pretty boring without my comments. LOL
