October 5, 20231 yr Ha! Years ago as a Case student, my roommates and I rented the three bedroom apartment above the lobby. My bedroom was directly above the snack bar and the floor boards had gaps, so mostly my room smelled like buttered popcorn when the theatre was open. Does this sound like a made up story?

November 5, 20231 yr 600 additional beds to be ready for 2024. ‘Topping off’ the South Residential Village: University President, Board Chair sign project’s final beam NOVEMBER 3, 2023 Fifteen months after crews started construction, the final piece of the South Residential Village’s structure is now in place. University President Eric W. Kaler and Board of Trustees Chair Fred D. DiSanto commemorated the achievement Thursday by signing the last long white beam before construction workers installed it. Known as a “topping off ceremony,” the moment marks a project’s key milestone in its progress toward completion. Work on its two new residence halls began in July of last year; it is expected to be ready to welcome students in the fall of 2024. https://thedaily.case.edu/topping-off-the-south-residential-village-university-president-board-chair-sign-projects-final-beam/
November 6, 20231 yr Not sure how new this is or if it has been previously shared, but I noticed a sign outside the garage on Random Road listing the location as for sale. Here's the listing I found online: https://www.hannacre.com/search-properties?property_id=10535&office=cleveland&page=1
November 6, 20231 yr MINGA! … that’s the building where the Guardians were carved https://orderisda.org/culture/old-school/guardians-marker-unveiled-in-clevelands-little-italy-neighborhood/ EDIT: Should the Cleveland Guardians buy it, I wonder? November 9, 20231 yr Interesting, Mike Fratello is an investor: Cent' Anni, an Amaro-Focused Cocktail Lounge, to Open This Month in Little Italy By Douglas Trattner on Wed, Nov 8, 2023 at 10:29 am A long-simmering project in Little Italy will soon take flight. Cent’ Anni (12401 Mayfield Rd.), a posh little cocktail bar that has been in the works for some time, is expected to open in late November. Located in the rear of the building immediately west of Valerio’s, the speakeasy-style lounge will be a celebration of all things Italian. “I lived in Little Italy and I always wanted to do something that celebrated Italy and Italian drinking culture and aperitivo hour and amaro and all that stuff,” says operating partner Michael Paley. Paley's partners in the project include David Orloff, Bob Reiner, Mike Fratello and Valerio Iorio. https://www.clevescene.com/food-drink/cent-anni-an-amaro-focused-cocktail-lounge-to-open-this-month-in-little-italy-43076390

April 4, 20241 yr For some strange reason the Little Italy thread has been locked since late January so I guess I will post this question here. I know this might be a long shot, but does anybody know why the WXZ development on the former Primo Vino site has laid dormant for so long? They torn down the restaurant many many months ago and put up a construction fence, but nothing has happened since then for a very long time. I am wondering if they have to pre sell a set number of units before they can close on their financing. Just a guess. The company's proposed renovation of a couple buildings across Mayfield from this site also seems to be stalled, as it was approved by Landmarks close to a year ago. The company's proposed renovation of a couple buildings across Mayfield from this site also seems to be stalled, as it was approved by Landmarks close to a year ago. I don't know. WXZ also has a big project ready to get going in Cleveland Heights (Taylor Tudors). And their College Club development also seemed to take forever, but has been highly praised. One of the principals of WXZ, Matt Wymer, lives nearby on Mayfield and this project is personal. So I don't know what the holdup is, but I would be very surprised if it doesn't happen.

April 9, 20241 yr A little more effort on Murray Hill Road. A duplex and a SFH are being rehabbed. The already have the current fad of gray-ish with white trim on the exterior and well as on some interior rooms' walls. The interior look puts the units in the "affordable" category, I'm guessing. Upright (formerly Fund That Flip) continues lending in Cleveland; this Upright short-term construction loan is 11.5%. There's a spur to get it done quickly. https://invest.app.upright.us/deals/70626 Remember: It's the Year of the Snake

One of my best friends signed a lease for a house on Murray Hill, about 200 yards from Mayfield Road. It has this very long driveway as well as a parking pad in front. August 20, 2024Aug 20 My two favorite parking areas from my CWRU days are both now gone. I parked in the lot by Fribley semi on purpose (I lived down there my first three semesters) the last time Holly and I went to the Feast, pre Ardyn. I suggested she not wear heels, I think admitting I was r**** was more painful than her choice of footwear. Still, even I have to admit that area is better served by dorms. Though let me assure you it's not as close to the station as it looks.

A LOT closer than walking to class each day.
August 20, 2024Aug 20 ^ about a 6 min walk per Google. I'm curious why they decided to build on that lot instead of CWRU lot 44 which looks to be closer to main campus as well as the rapid. Seems like the better lot to build on, but I'm sure they have their reasons.

August 31, 2024Aug 31 Yeah, Valentino's has been closed for over 4 years, which is a huge bummer. I loved their pizza. It was similar in price to the tourist favorite Mamma Santa's, but much better IMO.

September 28, 2024Sep 28 CWRU’s South Residential expansion stops By Ken Prendergast / September 28, 2024 As Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) approaches its 200th anniversary, just two years away, the growing college has just one megaproject on its syllabus for Cleveland’s University Circle — the $300 million Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building. So CWRU’s bicentennial legacy is to do what it has often done — prudently build when it needs to, not when it wants to. Even so, news of what the university is not building may come as a surprise.
