Add in some Greenhornes, Heartless Bastards, Buffalo Killers, and Thee Shams to represent Cincinnati.  Like most of what you've already chosen.

Let's not forget James Brown recorded most of his famous records at Cincinnati's own King Records in Evanston!  You betta get up off that thang!

Hmm, yeah, that's a pretty good list.

I've always felt Ultra Lounge Volume 3, Space Capades was the superior album to Ultra Lounge Volume 4, Bachelor Pad Royale

Any suggestions of some Best Of albums?  My vending company has become a bit panicky over the fact they have next to none of these in stock and requested we throw in some Best Of's for 10 or 15 albums instead of repeating artist.

I have always thought that jukeboxes (and for that matter wines lists) should do cross promotions with retail stores.  Basically have a record store owner (Shake It comes to mind) select all the albums and have a sign on the jukebox that says "Music Selected by Shake It Records" and then have all the albums available for purchase there.

same thing with wine lists.  Have Market Wines select the wine list on a menu and then have all the bottles available for purchase there.  The restaurant gets the expertise of the wine store owner in selecting wines and the customers can have a bottle of wine, enjoy it and know exactly where to go buy the wine.

Cross promotion

Great idea and funny that you say that.  Last night, Holly and I were discussing having Paul Sturkey choose our wine list and promote the fact it was his selection.  We were going to do that because Holly's family is close friends with the Sturkey's but I much prefer to bring in an OTR/Downtown store.  Let me see what I can do.

Wow, you already have a great list.  I second natinija's Beck-Odelay suggestion, and I wonder if you could add some Depeche Mode.

But it sounds like if you'll take Thomasbw's suggestion and use Shake It you'll get a similar playlist but more refined and you'll get the "I'm keeping it local" badge.

My suggestion of "Afghan Whigs - Unbreakable (A Retrospective)" is a best-of album from a local band. I just realized, though, that I had misspelled "Afghan" as "Arghan" -- oops! Anywho, if you want a best-of album with some local flavor, that's a perfect choice! (The band is far from limited to a local audience, in case you don't know them.)

I also like the idea of having Shake-It make the selection. Those guys know their stuff, and they run a local label, so they know their local stuff, too!

These have been removed from the original list freeing up 14 spaces.  We took these out do to duplication reasons.

That's a great line-up, except for one thing: it completely lacks anything recent. I don't know how important that is, but it might be a shortcoming for a hip image. Something to think about.

Ok, point taken. 5 spots left. All recent. What do ya got? Don't forget to look though at the first 24 selections which are all somewhat recent but I would like to see what you would recommend for truly recent.  100 selections total, 95 picked so far.

On a side note I would like for you to know that my vending company is throwing a fit over our selections as they keep almost none of them in stock. That to me is a testament to how unique this jukebox will be.

Thank you for not having a digital jukebox with a million songs. It totally kills the ability to identify an establishment based on its music.

My personal picks would be anything by The Shins and/or Underworld.

Underworld!!!! Yes! Give me an album.

My favorites, roughly in order of preference:

Underworld 1992-2002 (double compilation CD)

Beaucoup Fish

A Hundred Days Off

I can do 1.  Which would you prefer?

Wow, I feel like I have the fate of the universe in my hands.... I'd go with Beaucoup Fish.

and done! Now 4 more.

Thank you for not having a digital jukebox with a million songs. It totally kills the ability to identify an establishment based on its music.

We got the call last night giving us incentives to do just that and we said NO!  Apparently it is costing over 1200 to stock this jukebox but we feel this is a big part of our identity.

Ok, change of heart. Do you really like Beaucoup Fish more than a cd with Pearls Girls, 8 Ball and born slippy? Its your call......but comeon!!!!

Well, I did rank the compilation CD above Beaucoup Fish, but I assumed the fact that it's a double CD would disqualify it. (I don't like the idea of using just one half of a double CD; imagine having to pick only one disc of Pink Floyd's The Wall.)

good point.  Beaucoup Fish it is.

Postal Service - Give Up is starting to age (7 years since release...wow), but I think it's pretty much a modern classic. (Does anyone second this? I might be in a vacuum.) The song Such Great Heights seems to always show up in new places.

LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver (3 years old) is a highly acclaimed album by a god of hipsters (who will likely patronize your bar).

I'm not very familiar with a lot of releases from this year, but for something a bit different, you might consider Gil Scott-Heron - I'm New Here, which just came out this month. Pretty much everyone knows who he is, he covers a unique genre, and it's a brand-new album that critics (mostly) seem to like.

HOLY CRAP!  How could I forget Postal Service-Give Up!?!  Based off your already established list, that HAS to be on the jukebox.

I was about to suggest some Muse, but I don't know how well that fits into a bar...but seriously...Postal Service.

^^I love Postal Service and Such Great Heights is a favorite song...or was...until UPS began using it for every ad. Now? not so much.

I'm late to the game, but how about Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Ohio Players?

As for local, certainly Afghan Whigs, but how about Twlight Singers, The Bears, The Raconteurs, Midnight Star.

Somewhat modern; Spoon, The Black Keys, Buzzcocks, Joe Strummer(Clash singer) & the Mescaleros

Classic - where's ACDC, man! Or Blind Faith, Dire Straits, ABBA

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms would be a good pick.

I know I'm late to the game here, but as I randonly started humming Space Oddity to myself over the weekend, I thought a music list as eclectic as this needs David Bowie in it.

Here are a few that will appeal to most people

The Allman Brothers – The Road Goes on Forever

The Band – Greatest Hits

The Beatles – 1’s

Blues Traveler - Four

Bob Marley - The Legend

Bon Jovi -This Left Feels Right: Greatest Hits With a Twist

Bruce Springsteen - Greatest Hits

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Chronicle, Vol. 1

Counting Crows - August and Everything After

The Eagles - Greatest Hits

Eddie Money - Greatest Hits

Flogging Molly - Float

Frank Sinatra - Nothing But the Best

Garth Brooks - Double Live

George Clinton & The Parliament Funkadelics - The Best of George Clinton

Guns 'N Roses - Greatest Hits

Hall & Oates - Greatest Hits (I went to school with a bunch of people from Phili)

Hank Williams Jr. - Greatest Hits

Johnny Cash -The Essential Johnny Cash

John Melloncamp - The Best That I Could Do

Journey - Greatest Hits

Lynyrd Skynyrd - The Essential Lynyrd Skynyrd

Michael Jackson - Bad (sorry had to say it)

The Moody Blues - Greatest Hits

Animal House: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

The Police - Greatest Hits

The Rolling Stones - Jump Back: The Best of The Rolling Stones

Rusted Root - When I Woke

Spin Doctors - Pocket Full of Kryptonite

Tom Petty - Greatest Hits

Van Morrison - Moon Dance

^That's a great list.  What does the (sorry had to say it) next to Bad mean, though?

I've always felt Ultra Lounge Volume 3, Space Capades was the superior album to Ultra Lounge Volume 4, Bachelor Pad Royale

I have every volume. And I disagree with your assessment.

Wish I saw this thread sooner, but it appears the die has been cast.

Trust me, it all went down hill after Ultra-Lounge, Vol. 1: Mondo Exotica.  By the time they got to Ultra-Lounge, Vol. 11: Organs in Orbit they were just going through the motions.

And if you laid down some of your hard earned money for Ultra-Lounge, Vol. 17: Bongo Land, well then I've got a bridge to sell you.

I have Bongo Land.  Organs in Orbit had some great ones, including a few choice cuts by former Tiger, convicted embezzler and Cy Young award winner Denny McClaim.

Capitol provided them all gratis....during my swingin' DJ/MC days.

That dog just don't hunt.

Tomorrow I will call my vending company to see how many cds they have not been able to get so far.  We can and will be rotating in and out cds on a fairly regular basis.

Anybody mention the Bad Veins yet?

LYNDSAY BUCKINGHAM - HOLIDAY ROAD

We have 77 of our pics.  The Jukebox is being delivered tomorrow and I will be able to see then what they were not able to get.

Ok!!!!  Who was the funny guy who recommended Postal Service?  My God Man!

it seems so out of context

what seems to be the problem with Postal Service?

Uhh, that'd be me...what's wrong?

(With your tone, I feel like a student about to be severely scolded by his teacher. :P)

And I seconded.  Seriously, what's the problem?  That CD has an amazing ability to appeal to all crowds (except maybe Mormons) so give it a chance.

I take it back, we will put it in rotation.  For some reason I was thinking of Owl City's song when you said Postal Service.  How about Death Cab for Cutie also?

I know this is late, but Death Cab (for some more Ben Gibbard) would be a great choice - Plans would probably be best for the masses but Transatlanticism is quite good.  I love that there is a Pavement disc on the list.  For future consideration any Pixies or Dino Jr would also be good, and while there has been more than one suggestion for the Blue Album by Weezer the Red Album is a lot of fun.
