Oh, and you have to be clear when you interview someone what your pareting style is and that they will adhere to that. So for example, if you do not advocate CIO, you have to say what to do and when. If you do not practice corporal punishment, they need to agree to that as well and be shown how you handle misbehaving instead.

Man did I forget how hard it is to take care of a baby.  I babysat Mr. Fussy Pants this past weekend (Friday thru this morning) as his parents were out of town.  Usually I have him for a ½ day or on his parents "date night".

How old is Mr. Fussy Pants?  That is very nice of you to watch him and let his parents get out together.

On a related note, do parents here get babysitters regularly so that they can go on date nights?  If so, how do you find them?  Another thing I'm having a hard time is finding babysitters during a week day because I'm a stay-at-home mom still.  Sometimes I have doctors appointments.  My mother-in-law has been good with watching the little one, but she's currently on a long vacation.  Most friends and family members work 9-5 Monday through Friday, so they are not available.

That baby is 6.5 months going on 16!  I love him, I'm his God Father, so Ill baby sit at any time.  Mr. & Mrs. Thing 2 live 3 blocks away so it's not a big deal.  So when they go grocery shopping or need to run errands, I watch him.

Babysitters and Nanny's are hard to come by.  If you get one keep them forever.  My Nanny, Dona Izela, is amazing I love her to death,  she is like a 3rd grand mother.  When my brother had kids, she watched them until recently.  Her sister was my cousins Nanny.

In Ohio City, we have a group of about 30 (we've grown since the story) families who make up the Ohio City Babysitting Co-op. It makes finding a babysitter very easy. Basically, all the parents are friends so there are no worries about who is watching your kid.

Here is a story and video on the local news about us:

that's awesome!

My wife is in a Mom's club in Medina.  Basically there are something like 15 women who all have kids around the same age.  They all volunteer for babysitting on each night of the week.  It's free, all the kids know eachother, and it's super convenient as they are all nearby.  The rule is to be home by 10:30, and that's about it.  Some prefer that you bring them over their house.

Mr. Fussy Pants is growing so fast.  He has already outgrown his first pair of "shoes".  They grow up so fast.

My nephew say, "Willie Wonka, is such a good little dude.  He's "fun."" I had to remind him, it wasn't that long ago I was changing his diapers.

Why do the have to grow up?  :'(

70 lbs?  Yikes.  Can you say "line backer".  I hope you youngest is a boy!  LOL

Try Nose Tackle.  My boy just turned 5 and he is barely over 40lbs.

He's tall too, not built like a NT. My guess is tight end.  Or maybe DE. He's got good hands and throws a pretty nice ball, but most of all he is the only one of my three that will practice something until he gets it.

And yeah, all three are boys.

Congratulations, she is gorgeous! How exciting!

Congrats!! Is this your first??

Belated congrats on the little girl! I just had drinks with a friend who's son is a Halloween baby. He told me that at 4 his son still thinks that everyone dresses up and goes out just for his birthday.

Congrats!! Is this your first??

2nd.  My son is 5 and just went into kindergarten.... well, he goes to a montessori school so they technically call it "children's house"

Congrats!  My daughter was also born on Halloween.  Now you can tell her that everyone with Halloween lights and decorations is doing it to celebrate her birthday. For now that is what she believes.

That poor child!  Setting her up for disappointment!

For some reason, I find that  by far the creepiest graphic you have posted on here.

Maybe this will make you laugh - my 14 mo old son filled up the toilet last night with whole rolls of TP.  Four of them.

I immediately thought of you last night as I had a similar experience.  Mr. & Mrs. Thing 2 had an event last night, so I went over to babysit.  Senor Fussy Pantalones, decides to wake up just as I was getting into Fringe.  So I bring into the family room with me and we play for a while.  We're on the floor and he brings over a book, I start to read it to him....next thing I know....I awake to find a miniature toilet paper mummy standing in front of me.

He sort of scared me.    Until now he usually just falls asleep on my lap or next to me with one of his stuffed animals.  Somehow, MFP took one end of the toilet paper, while on the holder, and wrapped himself in it and traveled down the hall.  I was like OMG!  I just ripped it all off and cleaned up.  There was TP all over the powder room.  I didn't think I dozed off for more than a minute, but was actually 15 minutes.  The irony, he was wearing his Tazmanian Devil PJs.  :|  The good thing, I think he walked, without support, for the first time.

I got married this year to a woman I dated 20 years ago. She has a 27 year old daughter (with hubby) and 4 year old grand daughter. They recently moved in with us in our house at Kamm's Corners. We feel fortunate that we can provide a home for them during there time of need in such a great urban neighborhood with everything in walking distance.

Oh, and they just had another another baby - I am now Papa Scott

Took little RNR on his first rapid ride on Saturday as we attempted to attend Winterfest. I knew we wouldn't be able to stay long enough for the tree lighting (he is in bed at that time) but it sounded like some fun stuff would be going on, and mr. RNR was battling a cold and needed a break from kid duty for awhile. I took him to the Puritas station since Brookpark is such a dump. Honestly, it's been so long now since I rode, and I always had a monthly pass so this was my first time using the machines. I had no clue if I was supposed to buy a ticket for little RNR or not, could not find any info on it posted or in the machines so I opted not to buy him one. I bought myself a one way adult ticket and figured I'd buy another for the way home. It was not clear if I had to do something else to activate it and it was really busy there so I just took my ticket and went from there. There were a lot of families waiting for the train and we were so, so fortunate with the warm weather. When we got to TC he was scared to go through the turnstiles, so I carried him. There was a guy directing people with small children through the wheelchair gate and indicating people should just hold their tickets up in the air as they went by, so that's what I did. By the time we got upstairs to the main level in TC, little RNR was scared and wanted to go back. I carried him over to the center court area and the huge tree was all lit up and sparkling and a dude was doing the nutcracker/soldier thing where he carries a little baby around and slowly marches and makes these cool gestures and the babies are fascinated. He liked watching that, and then we looked at some of the other decorations as we made our way out to the square. It was PACKED with families, I have never seen it like that and it really made me smile. He saw a bunch of people eating from the food trucks and decided we needed to check it out, so I went by the trucks with him and told him some menu items at each one. He settled on a stand selling mac and cheese and sugar cookies (surprise) so we shared the mac cheese and some warm cider, sitting on a curb and watching the Rudolph Xmas movie playing. Then he did some running around and playing and we had a lot of fun. He started to throw a couple of tantrums about stuff he wanted to do that was unsafe which I wouldn't let him do, and I knew it was time to go, so we made our way back into TC and back down to the rapid area. Since I hadn't yet really used my ticket, I tried to swipe it while going through the handicapped gate but it kept beeping and saying there was an error. I gave the ticket to the guy and said I didn't know why it wasn't working and he just waved us through. The ride home was more like I remember the rapid being. There was a really rude young kid listening to very loud rap music with disgusting lyrics on his phone without any headphones, and a couple of seats ahead of him was a crazy guy who was rocking, rubbing his face and talking to himself and stabbing the air with his finger as he talked. I struck up a conversation with another mom behind us who was with her 7 year old daughter, and we had a nice conversation.

I wish all the rides could be like the one on the way there, and that public square could always look like it did during Winterfest. I'm so glad I had the chance to take him on this trip even though we weren't there all that long. He talked about the "silver train" as I was rocking him to sleep, and the sound the doors made when they opened. It was so cute.

Good experiences RnR.  We took our kids on the rapid for the first time last winter around the holidays.  They (the ones that know how to talk) thought it was so cool how we rode backwards.

Also, cute kid musky.  That is an amazing amount of hair for a little one!

  • 4 weeks later...

I cannot believe Mr. Fussy Pants is almost a year old.  He's growing up so fast.  I can't believe he's attempting to talk, it seems like he just started crawling.

  • 5 months later...

The little guy turns two next month!  I can't believe how big he is.  We think he's three feet tall already or at least pretty close to it.  He loves running around.  :)

That's great!

Mine is also a runner. He runs and runs and runs, I need to get that boy into track. He just turned 3 a couple of weeks ago!

Mine likes to run too. He ran right into the playground set at school and has quite a shiner now. I told him it gives him street cred.

I wonder if our little guy will become interested in baseball.  There are two other units on our floor.  Whenever we walk past them, he has to step on their doormats as if he's tagging them.  It's pretty funny.

Is there a career where you specialize in really loud whining? Because that's what mine indicates he is skilled in.

Maybe talk show host?  Or politician?

There comes a time when your little one says his/her first deliberate "word"..... often not a word recognized by the english language, but it impresses them nonetheless.  My son's was "dat"...... everything was "dat".... his food, his toys, me, whatever.... he must've said that word hundreds of times a day.  One of my favorite videos of him as a baby was of him scooting around the house after the cat saying "dat, dat, dat, dat".  Now my little girl's time has come and her... ummmm... "word" is "poo".  Oh well :)

My God kids are runners.  There is an elementary school with a track (i'd say its a 100 meter oval) a couple of blocks from our house and I just let them run until they are tuckered out!

And they love to press elevator buttons.

Several months ago my little guy pushed the call button in the elevator in our building.  It happened quickly.  Next thing I knew a phone was ringing, and a voice came through the speaker asking if there was an emergency on the elevator.  I told them that everything was okay, and it was just my toddler playing around.  I joked with people that he was testing to make sure the monitoring service the condo association pays for each month actually works.  But I learned a pretty important lesson myself.

Hey, I wasn't there. He was at school. I blame his mother for insisting on an education

Licking?  Eww.

Last night I wanted some Ice Cream so Mr. Fussy Pants and I go to the grocery stores.  Right next to the freezer aisle they had a pampers/huggies display.  Mr. Fussy Pants points to the display and says, in perfect English and a straight face, "for baby".  I just look at him and say, "No, for you.  You wear diapers."  He then says, "No!  for baby!" then turns and walks toward the check out line. Then he wanted to scan the ice cream and carry the bag.  We cannot leave a store unless he has his own bag.  I swear that boy thinks he's 17 years old instead of 17 months.

Dang, someone is in a hurry to grow up.

My daughter called everything "gopth" for the longest time till she discovered our reaction when she said "hi". I swear she hasn't shut up since.

That is GREAT. Following.

OMG.  That could be Fussy and Chunky.  Chunky has been potty trained for just over 2 weeks.  He's potty trained at 26 months and Fussy is on his way to being potty trained, because he also wants to be a "big boy and wear big boy underpants" and "go to Brunchies (Brunch)".

They are so big, have social lives and it seems like they will be in college in a minute.  :'( :'( :'(

Didn't know this thread existed but I guess I should let everyone know that as of the end of September there is a new little Rabbit Hasher.  That makes three in the clan now.  Sleepless nights.

Congratulations and wow, three. You must be exhausted.

Congrats!  Don't you just love diapers?

How is your little cutie?

My boy is 3.5 now and an insane bundle of energy. Despite my wanting him to go in another direction and, say, become a doctor, he is showing great interest in the dramatic arts, as well as physical stuff like tumbling/gym. He does pratfalls, loves Gene Kelly and loves singing and "dancing." I am going to get him into a children's theater class in the spring.

Kids love that stuff.  I think it adorable.  The boys take toddler yoga and gymnastics.  They love doing rolls in the park.  They started art class in August and they love it.

This is a picture  Mr. Fussy Pants, painted.  It's me and new Thing 1 play volleyball.  I thought it was Turkey before he told me what it was.

Do you guys know of any resources for local playgroups?

I have a 1.75 year old and we have not gotten him involved with enough children yet since he does not go to daycare.

We met a lot of friends with kids and ended up with a playgroup with folks my wife met at "story time" at the library.
