Posted February 26, 201015 yr a thread on st. paul’s downtown lowertown neighborhood this old historic warehouse neighborhood on the east side of downtown st paul is 4X3 blocks, which is about a third of downtown proper. interestingly, it originally used to be a wealthy hilltop residential neighborhood, but the homes were torn down and the hill was sunk closer to river level to support business. so I suppose it’s aptly named vs the rest of downtown! looking across the mississippi from lowertown farmers market ??? ghost signs stalled project? the wonderfully urban mears park – every city needs more of these block sized neighborhood parks  two residential towers front mears park on one side the tower base has an odd warehouse façade-dectomy, but I sure wouldn’t complain! more lowertown away from mears park rehabs, all new infill & views of downtown from just north/west of lowertown stalled(?) residential tower project & view of the minnesota state capital last is lunch at key’s diner – a minnesota turkey and wild rice salad=tasty! *** i hope you enjoyed a stroll around st. paul’s historic lowertown -- who can complain about a neighborhood where every old warehouse that can be rehabbed has been? ***
February 26, 201015 yr I dig St. Paul. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
March 2, 201015 yr St Paul seems to have this image as the blah, blue collar "Fort Worth" of the Twin Cities, but man it looks sweet in these pix...considerably more urban than one would expect given the reputation. St Paul's sphere of influence extended well into northern Wisconsin...my grandfather ended up working there for awhile back when my grandparents had a farm/resort in Wisconsin. They got St Paul radio and newspapers, and vacationers from St Paul to their cabins.
March 2, 201015 yr The more I look at this stuff the more I see what Dayton could be if the locals wherent a bunch of racist city-hating pig-fookers and the economy here was booming. This stuff is just great, and its not even the dominant city the metro area.
March 9, 201015 yr I see some light rail construction in there!!! Of the two twins, St Paul is definitely the city I prefer. It's far more elegant, stately and urban. Minneapolis is the rambunctious little yuppie nephew to calm, level-headed uncle St Paul.
